"HawkTalk" Virtual Networking Event

For SMCM Students and Alumni!

Date: November 27, 2012
Time: 7:00pm EST to 8:00pm EST

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Career Development Center invites students, alumni, and other friends of the college to join us for an exciting series of online networking events to occur throughout the academic year. Students, recent grads, and successful alumni are always asking for more opportunities to connect. Given our remote location, virtual networking seemed like logical way to accomplish this goal. It’s easy, fun, and you can participate from anywhere!

Please encourage your friends to participate!

About the Event

Register today by selecting the most relevant networking "room" on the right. During the registration process, you will be prompted to answer a few questions about yourself, and given the option to include a photo, Linkedin profile, and/or resume.

Return to this site at the date and time above and log in. (Don't worry...we'll send you an email reminder with a link as the date approaches!) You'll be placed in the "room" you selected during registration and will participate in a series of 10-minute one-on-one text-based chats with others in the same room.

During registration you will indicate whether you are a current student/recent grad or an experienced alum/faculty/staff/other with insight to share. This ensures that those seeking advice are paired only with those able to offer it, and vice versa. Because the industry groupings are quite broad it is likely that many “matches” will involve quite disparate interests. In such cases there is great value in simply discussing general questions about career paths and the world of work.

It is our hope that these connections will provide students and recent grads with the opportunity to build their network and learn about the successes of past graduates, in addition to providing alumni with a convenient opportunity to give back by sharing resources and lessons learned. Though the main purpose of these events is not to connect students with jobs and internships, participants are encouraged to share information about desired and available opportunities. Pairs who establish a meaningful connection during this “speed-networking” event are encouraged to exchange contact information and continue correspondence on their own.
